Mineralogy: Malachite
Tiger's eye belongs to the quartzite family, a metamorphic rock composed mainly of quartz . Its formation is the result of alchemy.
Of fibrous origin, tiger's eye is born from crocidolite , a variety of asbestos with blue fibers.
Oxidation and transformation over time, crocidolite oxidizes.
The iron it contains transforms into iron oxides , notably limonite, giving the stone its golden and brown hues.
Quartz then grows around the oxidized crocidolite fibers , retaining their fibrous structure.
It is this phenomenon of pseudomorphosis that creates the shimmering effect so characteristic of tiger's eye .
